Moldova Concert Cimbalom MULTiFORMAT

This concert Cimbalom was made in Republic of Moldova in 1990. The range of the instrument is: B1 – F#6 – (American designation) but has been mapped as B0 – F#5 to smoother support 5 octave keyboards mostly used by DAW based musicians.

There was three pair of mallets used at the recording:

• Soft mallets – made in Hungary.
• Middle/Medium mallets – made in Moldova.
• Hard mallets – made in Romania.

The recording was made in the “Usachevsky” studio at the University of Utah, and the instrument was played by Igor Iachimciuc, who is known as one of the best Cimbalom players/composers in Moldova.

All notes in the instruments whole range have been recorded in 3 velocity layers for all the 3 mallet types in both sustained and damped versions. Above that we also recorded Harmonics (sustained) and the Moldova Cimbalom played with nails (Pizzicato), both sustained and damped and to round it of; a huge selection of clusters and effects has been recorded.Igor Iachimciuc

Two microphones for stereo representation have been utilized (AKG 414) and the recording was made on a Pro Tools system.
All samples were recorded at 24 bits, and 44.1 Sample Rate.

The SampleSet contains 1 208 24bit stereo WAV samples mapped in 21 programs for Steinberg HALion, NI Kontakt, EXS24 & Gigastudio 3 each.

All programs titled with “Full” in their names has both the sustain and damped staccato samples in the same program, you switch between these by pressing the sustain pedal to get the damped sound opposite to a piano who gives sustained sound when pressing the pedal.

Slow is a RMS based leveling amp / compressor aimed for mastering but it can be very handy in production as well. It’s called slow because initially the attack and release was locked to 2 seconds, really slow, hence the name. As the plugin evolved we added an attack knob and in it’s latest incarnation we also let the release out in the open. It start to look like a normal compressor but you’ll soon notice that that is not the case. Slow does not just reduce the gain when the level is above a threshold, it will also increase the gain when the level is below. This make Slow one of a kind and the approach has shown that you can achieve transparent results quicker and with less hassle and surprises. Its intended use is for even out the level of a whole track but try it for sculpting bass drums, compress vocals or brass

This great collection of small orchestral and ethnic hand percussion instruments was designed to compliment our existing collection of “epic” hall scoring drums and percussion, yet it also stands alone as a unique toolbox of punchy, powerful and often needed instruments, like the tambourine and Turkish finger cymbals. We not only went out of our way to capture these instruments as deeply as we could muster, but tried as much as possible to discover new ways of thinking about and playing them. You may notice some unorthodox articulations included with some of the instruments, as well as a few strange combinations and mutations that take the sound in whole new creative directions.

Little Epic Percussion includes instruments such as tambourine, finger cymbals, concert triangle, ship’s bell, wooden frogs, monkey drum, native american rabbit drum, and a slew of mixed ensemble percussion featuring claves, kalimba, rattles, shakers, vibraslap, bells, etc. All of these were recorded in our signature epic hall to bring out the full tone of all the instruments. Our Tone / FX controls give you access to a number of effects to shape the sounds further. The 3-band EQ gives you ±18db of Low, Mid and High with a fully adjustable Mid Freq. sweep from 20Hz to 20kHz. Other effects include Lo-Fi with adjustable bit-depth and sampling frequency, Flanger, Rotator, Pro-53 Filter, Delay with tempo-synch, Convolution Reverb and a Stereo Modeller. The Uberpeggiator is another powerful feature included in most Percussion and FX patches. It’s an advanced arpeggiator allowing control over tempo-synched rhythm timing, number of hits, swing, repeat, pitch, scale and a full 16-step velocity table.

The history behind the upcoming Tonehammer Bongajon (combination of Cajon and Bongo) is actually one of darkness and despair. Tonehammer decided to explore both instruments extensively by sampling two sets of professional Cajons (snare and non-snare) and three sets of professional Bongos (small, medium and large). We recorded them as ensemble groups, divisi groups and individual solo sets. The end result includes nearly 8000 samples and 34 instrument patches. We sampled both types of instruments close and dry, using hands, fingers, mallets, sticks and brushes. We made sure to cover a huge range of different playing surfaces on all instruments. Both of the Cajons were also recorded with two different microphone positions (internal and external), so users can truly get the sound they wish. Then, we also captured the 2 cajons and the large primary bongo pair a second time, in a warm, slightly wet wooden percussion studio, just to allow that much more user flexibility. And as a bonus, we’ve included a special section of ensemble hand claps, finger snaps and hotrod stick clacks. All instruments and articulations in the library have a full 10 round robins per velocity layer, and up to 10 velocity layers each. The end-result is the most detailed ensemble and solo Cajon and Bongo library in the history of sampling.
